Many users of WD’s NAS (network attached storage) device called “My Book Live” have recently discovered that their device has been factory reset and their data irretrievably deleted. WD is investigating whether a security vulnerability has allowed hackers to infiltrate the devices. In the meantime, WD recommends disconnecting the devices from the internet.
Several people in this Ars Technica article are quoted as saying they lost thousands of critical files. Of course, you’re already backing up all your data, so that’s not going to happen to you, right?
